LAKE PLACID – The 40th annual High Peaks Cyclery Mini Triathlon Series is scheduled to begin Monday, June 24, at Mirror Lake Beach.

The race series will take place every Monday night through August 12. This summer’s races begin at 6:30 p.m. and include a 366-meter swim in Mirror Lake, a 12-mile bike ride around the River Road Loop and a 5-kilometer run down Mount Whitney Road and back.

The swim begins at the beach right next to the public tennis courts in Lake Placid. The swim is an out-and-back along the right bank of Mirror Lake. A large orange buoy marks the turnaround point for the swim. If the buoy is missing, the turnaround point is a red fire hydrant on the shore.

After the swim, participants will exit the transition area by bike, turn left onto Mirror Lake Drive and follow the shore of Mirror Lake for 1 mile before turning right onto Northwood Drive. At the end of Northwood Drive, they will turn left onto Route 86 toward Wilmington before turning right onto River Road. At the end of the road, participants will turn right onto State Route 73. Cyclists will head back into town, and once they reach the top of Mill Hill, they will turn right onto State Route 86 and head back to Northwood Road. Once they reach Northwood Road, they will ride all the way down the road until they reach Mirror Lake Drive, where they will turn left to return to the transition area.

After leaving the transition area, participants will begin the run portion by turning left onto Mirror Lake Drive and then right onto Mount Whitney Road. They will run approximately half a mile to telephone pole number 13 before turning around and returning to the finish line.

Cost is $20 for an individual and $45 per team. Registration and payment can be made in person at the boat ramp on Mirror Lake (the location of the race start and changeover area) starting at 5:30 p.m. each week. Cash or check is preferred.

Each week, the top three male and female participants with the best overall times and a randomly selected winner will be awarded. The awards ceremony will begin between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
