Andy Murray is unsure if he is ready for Wimbledon after back injury in Queen’s tournament

LONDON (AP) — Andy Murray withdrew from his second-round match at the Queen’s Club on Wednesday because of a back injury, raising doubts about what is likely to be his last Wimbledon appearance.

Murray, 37, stopped playing when he was 4-1 down against Jordan Thompson and the former No. 1 player said he would undergo scans on Thursday.

The two-time Wimbledon champion, who has hinted at retiring later this year, said he “doesn’t know” whether he will be ready when matches begin at the All England Club on July 1.

Murray, who has won the Queen’s Club title five times, said he had been experiencing problems with his right leg before he took to the court, and was clearly in pain during warm-ups and during the match.

After three games, Murray underwent surgery on his right hip, right knee and lower back.

Sebastian Korda had previously defeated former Queen’s Club champion Grigor Dimitrov and reached the quarterfinals of the grass court tournament.

Korda, who reached the grass final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch last week as part of his preparation for Wimbledon, won his second-round match 6-4, 3-6 and 7-5.

“It was a big battle. We both served well and waited for our chances, and there weren’t many. But when they came, I tried to take them,” said Korda, ranked 23rd. “It’s incredible to play at Queen’s, it’s one of my favorite tournaments.”

Dimitrov won the Queen’s Club title in 2014.

For Korda, it was already the seventh victory over an opponent from the top 10. Next, he will fight against Rinky Hijikata for a place in the semifinals. Hijikata defeated the Italian Matteo Arnaldi 7:6 (0), 7:6 (7).
