Chris Brown’s experience as a firefighter also includes his time in the US Air Force.

During the Snoqualmie City Council meeting on June 24, Snoqualmie Fire Chief Mike Bailey introduced the community and council to the newest member of the department’s staff, his deputy Chris Brown.

“I think Chris will bring some great things and a lot of energy to the department,” Bailey said during the meeting. “I look forward to him working side by side with me at the fire department.”

Snoqualmie Mayor Katherine Ross presented Brown with a new helmet and his wife pinned his new badge on him.

As deputy chief and second in command, Brown will supervise officers, serve as the department’s safety officer, manage day-to-day operations and fill in for Bailey in his absence, Bailey wrote in an email.

“It is an honor and a privilege for my family and me to serve as the next Deputy Chief of Snoqualmie Fire,” Brown said in a brief address to the council. “I’m really looking forward to bringing all of my experience and knowledge and everything I have in my toolbox to Snoqualmie Fire.”

Before taking the new position, Brown was a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, serving in Alaska, Florida, Honduras and England, according to a city press release.

Most recently, he worked for the past two years as a training director at the Washington State Fire Training Academy between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass.

“All of the candidates had excellent qualifications, but Deputy Chief Brown’s military background and leadership skills made him stand out,” Bailey wrote. “Having been with the department for 25 years, I thought he would be a good addition to me and would bring an outside perspective to the department.”

Brown took office on July 1.
