SEOUL, July 2 (AJU PRESS) – Samsung Electronics’ main union has threatened a three-day strike next week, demanding higher wages for some workers.

The National Samsung Electronics Labor Union (NSELU), which represents about 22 percent of Samsung’s 125,000 employees, called the strike on Monday evening after negotiations with company management failed.

The union will strike from Monday to Wednesday and demand higher wage increases for the 855 members who did not sign the 2024 collective agreement, under which the company had proposed an average wage increase of 5.1 percent.

They are also demanding greater incentives for increased profits and compensation for the economic losses caused by the strike.

The union said it could extend the action if its demands were not met.

This strike follows the collective walkout on June 7, the first industrial action in the technology giant’s 55-year history, which had little impact on operations.

Industry observers expect the second measure to result in only limited participation and minimal disruption to production.

Critics point out that their demands for higher wages for a particular group may not be shared by the general public.

This latest move comes as the union’s status as a representative bargaining group expires in August, potentially putting pressure on it to reach an agreement.
