Ariana Grande has spoken out about a recent clip that circulated online showing a drastic change in her speaking voice. She claims the change is partly due to her efforts to protect her singing voice.

The 30-year-old pop star responded to the popular TikTok, which featured a clip of her interview on Penn Badgley’s podcast “Podcrushed” last week. The video, posted on Monday, already has more than 876,000 likes, as well as numerous comments that seem to poke fun at her voice change.

“I intentionally change my vocal pitch (high/low) often depending on how much I’m singing,” Grande commented on the TikTok video on Tuesday.

She described the change as a “habit” she has had for two years – something she does for her “vocal health”.

“I’ve always done that, BYE,” she concluded her message.

Among the comments she appeared to have responded to was one that read, “This is so scary… is she actually okay?” Another user wrote in all caps, “GLINDA LET HER GO,” implying that her character from “Wicked” was somehow holding her captive.

The “Thank U, Next” singer spoke openly about her vocal transformation for her “Wicked” role and the extensive training that may have influenced her voice.

This is not the first time that Grande’s speaking voice has been the subject of public scrutiny. There were similar reactions when she presented an award at the Oscars in March and many noticed her higher pitch.
