The incredible value of Max Scherzer for the Texas Rangers

The incredible value of Max Scherzer for the Texas Rangers

In honor of Bobby Bonilla Day, we take another look at a deal that is almost unbelievable in the MLB.

Max Scherzer will surely be inducted into the Hall of Fame when he retires. He recently passed Greg Maddux on the all-time strikeout list and has had an excellent start since returning from the injured list. But the Texas Rangers are paying a bargain price for him.

The reason why they were able to get him at all? Because his former teams cover most of his bills.

In 2024, Scherzer is expected $15 million from the Nationals and over $30.8 million from the Mets in addition to Texas pays him $12.5 million. That is a total of over 58.3 million US dollars for Max.

The payments from both Washington and New York are due on July 1 and are due to the way in which money was deferred when the contracts were designed. Just like with Bobby Bonilla.

There are Rumors are circulating that Texas wants to sell him before the deadline this year, but if Bruce Bochy has anything to say about it, it’s more wishful thinking than anything else.

Scherzer is back after off-season back surgery and has allowed just two runs on five hits and eight strikeouts in his 10.1 innings this season. For almost his entire career, a player who always managed over 100 inningsBochy will want to build on Max and support him rather than sell him.

And also, The Rangers are in deep trouble, but are not out of the fight yet for a place in the playoffs. Things are just going well.
