The technology industry, and in particular the field of artificial intelligence (AI), has long been criticized for its gender inequality. This persistent problem is not just about numbers, but also about representing and including diverse perspectives that drive innovation. In response to this challenge, the “What She Said” lecture series, hosted by W San Francisco in collaboration with SIA Scotch Whisky, is an impactful initiative that aims to address this imbalance and amplify women’s voices. Through a variety of talks and activities, the series provides women with a platform to share their experiences, insights and expertise. This year’s edition included a diverse panel of successful women in the AI field from different backgrounds and specializations, illustrating the importance of providing inclusive platforms for discussion and learning. By fostering a supportive community, the Women in AI aims to inspire the next generation of female leaders in AI and technology.

These women, with their diverse backgrounds and expertise, are not only advancing the field of AI, but are also paving the way for future generations of female technology leaders. Their stories of resilience, innovation, and leadership serve as an inspiration to all, and show that with determination and support, the tech industry can be a place where women can thrive and drive impactful change.

SIA Scotch Whisky’s role in the partnership

You may be wondering what a whisky brand has to do with AI? The answer lies in shared values. SIA Scotch Whisky, founded by Carin Luna-Ostaseski, is committed to breaking down barriers and promoting diversity, much like the Women in AI who are paving the way for future generations by promoting change and inclusivity within the tech industry. Both fields seem different at first glance, but what they have in common is a commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo.

SIA Scotch Whisky has revolutionized the industry and inspired others to achieve the unexpected. Founded by a pioneering Hispanic entrepreneur, SIA is among the first Scotch whisky brands of its kind. Its approachable flavor profile offers notes of warm vanilla, salty-sweet caramel, refreshing citrus, clover honey, buttery toffee and a subtle hint of smoke. Perfect for cocktails, enjoyed neat or on the rocks, SIA shines best in settings where potential is unleashed and friendships are celebrated.

“We are excited to be part of the What She Said event at W San Francisco,” they say Carin Luna-Ostakeski, founder of SIA. “The focus on AI has put a spotlight on women in the industry who are pioneering a new industry. As the founder of SIA, I am a pioneer myself, being one of the first women in history to create a brand of Scotch whisky. I hope that by introducing ‘outsiders’ to the spirit, and really everything new, we can show that not only is it OK to be an outsider, but it’s OK to be an outsider! What She Said is such a great platform to showcase inspiring women doing incredible things and I’m so honored to be a part of it.”
