Geneco collaborates with singer Sherman Zhuo for new song in mental wellbeing campaign

With its campaign “Here, Sunrise x Sunset”, Singaporean electricity supplier Geneco is highlighting the importance of the mental health of young people in Singapore on this national holiday.

Hand in hand with this year’s National Day theme of “Together, as one united people”, “Here, Sunrise x Sunset” highlights the power of collectivism as it champions mental wellbeing through the strength and solidarity of Singaporeans.

The campaign also aims to build a supportive community, raise awareness of mental health and help young people manage their mental health.

As part of the campaign, Geneco has collaborated with local, award-winning singer-songwriter Sherman Zhuo, NParks’ Garden City Fund and Beyond the Label. First, Geneco and Zhuo released a new song together titled Endless shine on YouTube and Spotify.

“We know that youth are more vulnerable to mental health issues due to stressors at school, work and social media. By collaborating with Zhuo, we aim to support more local artists and increase our efforts to reach out to Singapore’s youth,” said Alex Chan, Head of Brand, Communications and Marketing at Geneco.

“We hope to use the power of music to spark conversations about mental wellbeing among youth and foster a culture of acceptance and support in the midst of our stress-ridden society,” Chan added.

Composed by Zhuo, Endless shine describes his journey to overcome psychological problems and societal expectations by finding joy in the little things in life.

“I am very excited to collaborate with Geneco on this campaign because, as an artist, promoting mental health is something I am very passionate about. In today’s fast-paced world inundated with social media content, I believe it is important for everyone to prioritize mental health,” said Zhuo.

“As a singer-songwriter, I have struggled with personal issues when it comes to conforming to societal norms and expectations. Having struggled with mental health issues myself, I can relate to this issue very well and hope that with this song I can uplift those who may still be on that journey,” he added.

In the same vein, Geneco is taking the opportunity to expand its long-standing partnership with Garden City Fund by featuring one of NParks’ new therapeutic gardens – East Coast Park – in the music video for Endless shine.

With this, Geneco hopes to raise awareness of therapeutic gardens and provide stressed-out youth with more opportunities to find solace and rejuvenation in a calm and peaceful environment. In addition, Geneco will donate SGD 10,000 to the Garden City Fund to support NParks’ therapeutic gardening program.

Geneco will also donate 10,000 Singapore dollars to Beyond the Label once the company reaches its goal of one million streams of Endless shine.

“Raising awareness and encouraging dialogue on mental health will pave the way for a healthier and more supportive community. We are excited to partner with Geneco on their ‘Here, Sunrise x Sunset’ campaign to highlight our shared mission to champion mental wellbeing and fight the stigma of mental illness in Singapore,” said Andrea Chan, Head of Beyond the Label.

“By focusing on youth mental wellbeing at the upcoming Beyond the Label Fest 2024, we hope to give youth the tools they need to manage their mental health issues and encourage them to become active advocates for mental wellbeing in their communities,” she said.

To further engage the youth, Geneco will host a pop-up installation at the atrium of Bugis Junction from 29 July to 4 August 2024. The event invites visitors to immerse themselves in the transformative essence of Endless shine with specially curated sound tube installations, emotional lyrics and melodies.

And finally, members of the public will have a chance to be one of five lucky winners who will receive eCapitaVouchers worth SG$100. To win, interested participants can cast their vote for their favourite lyrics featuring the scenes from Endless shine on Geneco’s campaign website or on-site at the pop-up installation.

This campaign comes after the electricity retailer collaborated with NParks’ Garden City Fund, photography influencer Daryl Aiden Yow and sustainable fashion platform REFASH for its #MySecretGarden campaign on last year’s National Day.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness of Singapore’s abundant green spaces and their positive impact on mental health. It focused on nine NParks therapeutic gardens, designed as oases of relaxation, healing and self-reflection that can improve mental health while also appealing to the younger generation.

Geneco chose Yow for the partnership because the influencer had to overcome his own mental health issues when he faced public criticism in 2018 for passing off stock photos on Instagram as his own.

As part of the campaign, Yow’s photos were exhibited in a photo gallery at Funan Shopping Mall, where individuals had the opportunity to vote for their favorite photo.
