Matt A. Moody, 56, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Volunteer pallbearers are Rob Carver, Mike Kurriger, Leland Lorentzen, Doug Stolley, Karen Westmoreland, Laura (Rain Mist), Fran Hughes, Andrea Myers and Desiree Border. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.

Viewing will be Friday, July 5, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Matt’s honor in the name of his wife, Mandy. Matt was born on May 3, 1968 in Muscatine to Gary Denean and Nancy Lee (O’Leary) Moody. He married Mandy M. Byrd on November 13, 2009 in Muscatine.

Matt worked at HNI for nearly 30 years, but his true passion was volunteering as a manager/operator at the Village Theater. He was an actor, writer, director, officiant, handyman, comedian, and more. He wore many different hats when it came to taking care of his people.

Matt was a great supporter of all the arts in Muscatine and the Quad Cities. He was very generous and helped many people when they needed it. He always made people feel heard and safe. Matt had an amazing sense of humor and a booming laugh. Those who knew Matt loved him. He loved his family, his cats, and especially his dog Chewie.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Mandy Moody, daughter Lizz Smith and her partner Paul Zdon, Matt and Mandy’s children Cameron Moody, Lauren Moody and her husband Alex Steffen, Brad Howard, Kaden Honts and Nathaniel Honts, brother Dan Moody and his partner Sue Marr, nieces and nephews Luke and his wife Sarah, Nate, Samantha and her fiancé Connor, Johnny and Abby, great nieces and great nephew, uncles, aunts, cousins, brothers-in-law Clifford Byrd III and Daniel Byrd and his chosen theater family.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Lisa Michelle Moody, his nephew Drake Ronald Moody and his mother-in-law Vickie.
