Kill Review – Lakshya Stars in One of the Most Epic Action Movies of the Year!

Here at FandomWire we are reviewing the new action spectacle Kill (2023) starring Lakshya and this article contains no spoilers.

Sometimes a movie star comes out of nowhere and blows you away. In the Indian action thriller in Hindi KillLakshya is that man. A relative unknown, he burst onto the scene with his granite chin, perfect stubble and a thick head of hair that barely bristles when he crushes someone’s chest with a powerful kick or splits a skull with an iron fist.

After watching Killviewers can enjoy adrenaline-fueled, bone-crunching, ankle-breaking, lip-splitting escapism. The kind that drags its villains across a cheap train carpet, leaving them with the taste of burnt carpet in their mouths and shards of glass in their foreheads (or in this case, hatchets, knives, bullets, and a whole lot of hammers).

Kills Review and Summary

It’s an action story as old as time itself. A special forces officer named Amrit (Lakshya) returns after disappearing from the scene for a few weeks following a secret army mission. He turns on his mobile phone after his best friend and brother in arms Viresh (Abhishek Chauhan) tells him that his girlfriend has been desperately trying to reach him.

Dozens of text messages arrive on his phone from the love of his life, Tulika (Tanya Maniktala). Tulika’s family has arranged her engagement to another man. However, she tells her little sister Aahna (Adrija Sinha) that while she can get engaged to anyone her father (Harsh Chhaya) wants, Amrit is the only man she will marry.

They agree to elope the next day. Tulika and her family travel first class while Amrit and Viresh take the cheap seats. But soon some modern-day bandits with knives take over the train to New Delhi. Led by the mad Fani (a ruthless Raghav Juyal), Amrit summons his inner Steven Seagal and fights his way through the bad guys to save the woman he loves.

Kill is one of the best action movies of the year!

And so Kill pulls you in, grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. This action spectacle is a vengeful thriller fueled by adrenaline, revenge and love. The action film in Hindi Kill, Written and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat (Hurdang), delivers an impressive action movie experience as Bhat’s script continually finds ways to outdo itself.

I would say Kill takes real risks with his screenplay and makes bold narrative choices that most films wouldn’t dare to make, often opting for a condescending cinematic ending. Yet Bhat manages to deliver a fresh narrative while still giving the viewer a poignant ending that gets to the core of what drives the main character.

Over and beyond, Kill features some of the most breathtaking and brutal action scenes in recent memory. It’s a thrilling, pulse-pounding and electrifying action film that takes no prisoners. The only thing I would have liked more of would be a deeper subtext that explores important genre themes such as historical and political context and socioeconomic differences, especially to flesh out the villains more fully.

Is Kill Worth seeing?

Even though the villains are monotonous, including a manically entertaining turn by Raghav Juyal, Kill is worth watching for its daring screenplay and Lakshya’s acting. You’ll probably hear a lot of hackneyed comparisons comparing this film to a video game. It’s not. Bhat manages to take the characters in unexpected directions, which heightens the tension.

This includes a shocking development at the 42-minute mark, when the film’s title card finally appears. The sequence is merciless; not only does it happen, but the way it unfolds is also ruthless. It sets the tone for the next hour, as if the first part wasn’t exciting enough. It’s rare that a film creates genuine suspense and revives the cliche.

Kill is one of the best action films of the year, although the overtly gruesome action could have been toned down and sometimes deviates into unnecessary detail. However, it is invigorating and has a moving ending, making this film worth watching.
