About passing on roles

Noting that he had turned down various roles, including superhero roles, Hamm clarified: “Yes. And it’s not like they said, ‘We want you to be Iron Man.'”

He continued, “But there have been a lot of conversations, and I’m still involved. I talk to the people who run Marvel and DC. And I’m a comic book nerd. So, we’ll see. Even that part of the industry is changing.”

The rejection of Green Lantern

One interesting role that Hamm turned down was that of Green Lantern. We can assume that this role went to Ryan Reynolds.

Looking back on his decision, he said: “I definitely didn’t want to do that.”

The Marvel Pitch

Despite turning down Green Lantern, Hamm has not shied away from applying for other superhero roles, especially Marvel, and he has previously said that he is a huge X-Men fan (Hamm almost played Mister Sinister in the New mutants Movie).

“But I did audition for a couple of parts of the Marvel universe. I don’t want to say which ones exactly, but it was a part of a comic that I really liked. I said, ‘Are you going to do that story?’ And they said, ‘Yeah, we’re actually thinking about it.’ I said, ‘Good. I should be the guy.’ So, maybe it’ll work out,” he revealed.

Jeff Goldblum Marvel Grandmaster

Inspired by Jeff Goldblum

Hamm also expressed his admiration for Jeff Goldblum, who played the Grandmaster in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok And What if…? Cartoon.

“I look at the career of a guy like Jeff Goldblum — and I know Jeff a little bit, we used to have the same therapist — and I just think, ‘God, how great that he can do all the things he’s done.’ He had his phase as a leading man, and then he does Marvel and he just rolls through and steals the show, and then he does commercials and is damn funny. I see him out there and he’s happy,” Hamm said.
