Country singer Brittany Brodie gives it her all with “Like A Woman Should”

Country singer Brittany Brodie gives it her all with “Like A Woman Should”

When you finish your workday, you want to leave the stress, strains and hassle of the job behind and return home feeling the comfort, companionship and love of your significant other. Canadian country singer Brittany Brodie expresses these feelings with her latest standout single, “Like A Woman Should,” out now.

Brodie, who grew up in Mount Forest, Ontario, but now calls Nashville home, wrote the song at the Nashville Songwriters Association International with help from her co-writers and friends Natalie Otto and Charles Austin. “We wanted to write something very down-to-earth, real and romantic about loving your husband when you come home after a long day or a long week, and just wanting to show him your appreciation when you reunite with him after so much work,” she says. “Making time for each other.”

The song’s deadpan arrangement gives way to Brodie’s sweet delivery, with a style that would make the likes of Shania Twain, The Chicks or Carrie Underwood jealous. Free of slick production qualities or frills, “Like A Woman Should” is a sultry, earthy, American-tinged song that would sound good on the Opry stage or around the campfire. The lyrics depict how Brodie would treat her better half once the rigors of the proverbial rat race are over.

Give it your all and invest time
I’m counting down the seconds
Since our last farewell
Until you get home
Oh, until you get home

“Some people have said it’s the country version of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’ and I think it’s a perfect fit,” says Brodie of her 26th single release. “It feels so good to write about things that come easily, real life that everyone can relate to.”

Brodie grew up listening to country legends such as Vern Gosdin, Johnny Horton, George Strait and Dottie West, and was also influenced by Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride and Faith Hill. Brodie has used these talented touchstones to hone her own material in national and international performances, including a performance at the Belladrum Festival in Scotland in July 2022. She also regularly sings the national anthem before Nashville Sounds Triple A Baseball home games.

When she’s not touring, she also performs in and around Nashville. These appearances include performances as part of the Rebel Rouser Rounds at The Stillery and a Nashville Songwriter’s Showcase at The Commodore Grille. In June 2024, she also made her first appearance at Smash Farm at Live Oak in Nashville. At such shows at the center of country music, she also shared the stage and performed with country icon Vince Gill.

The future is bright for Brittany Brodie thanks to “Like A Woman Should,” a single that speaks to a universal desire to clock in. “I love true stories and you can feel that in this song.”
