Scranton residents raise concerns after debate

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The debate between President Biden and former President Trump continues to stir debate across the country and in NEPA.

Many citizens express concerns about the president’s ability to serve another term.

After President Biden’s performance during the debate, residents of his hometown of Scranton are wondering if he can handle another four years in office.

“Nothing against Joe Biden, but he falls asleep on TV and stuff, and I just think he should either get Kamala Harris or someone else should run for president. It’s nothing against Joe Biden, but you have to put your health first, health is wealth, you know,” said Scranton resident Ant Marquis.

Some residents say that while Biden has served the country well, the signs of aging are now becoming apparent.

“I think Joe Biden has done enough for this country that he needs to step down. His health, his age and all that has to be taken into account because something can happen and then the vice president will step in. So why waste any time? I think he can’t do the job anymore because he’s just at the top of his game,” Eddie Kearney said.

Others believe Biden’s wisdom and experience outweigh his age-related concerns.

“He should definitely run. I know what it’s like to be an older gentleman. Sometimes things are harder, but we have a certain wisdom and ability that younger people don’t have,” said Stanley Hale of Scranton.

Additionally, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro shared his thoughts on President Biden’s performance during the debate.

“Look, Joe Biden had a bad debate night and Donald Trump was a bad president and would be a bad president,” Governor Shapiro said.

Governor Shapiro discussed the differences in the political views of the two 2024 presidential candidates and who will get his vote.

“I think there continues to be a clear contrast in this race. I will do everything in my political power to ensure that Joe Biden is re-elected,” Governor Shapiro continued.

The next presidential debate is scheduled for September 10 on ABC, but an exact date has not yet been announced.
