GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Greeneville/Greene County Boys and Girls Club is building a brand new facility that will be twice the size of the current one. The new facility will span 27,000 square feet, while the current building is only about 10,000 square feet.

Scott Bullington, executive director of the Greeneville/Greene County Boys and Girls Club, told News Channel 11 that the additional space will allow the club to expand its programming.

“In the current facility we have 24 computers, but in our computer lab we will have 48,” Bullington said. “We will have a STEM room, CTE, a dedicated room for teens, which we don’t have now, and we will have a large teaching kitchen.”

Other new features at the new facility include two new gyms and a large auditorium. Bullington said it has been difficult to accommodate more children due to limited space, but that will change when they move into the new building.

“We will be able to double our enrollment and hopefully no longer have waiting lists like I have at the Boys and Girls Club this summer,” Bullington said.

Shannon Shelton, an employee at the facility, said the addition of new programs will benefit the children enrolled there.

“This is a big deal, both educationally and in terms of their creativity,” Shelton said. “We want to make sure we reach all kids from all different aspects and backgrounds.”

Parts of the new facility’s gymnasium are finished, but there is still much work to be done. Bullington said he hopes the new facility will be ready in early 2025, weather permitting.
