Speaker makes changes after Love moves to Senate

The appointment of a representative from Montgomery County to fill a vacancy in the Senate resulted in a reorganization of committee assignments in the House of Representatives.

Former Delegate Sara Love (D-Montgomery) was sworn in to the Senate last month to fill a vacancy left by the departure of Ariana Kelly.

House Speaker Adrienne Jones announced changes in House leadership on Monday to fill the void created by Love’s move to the Senate.

Del. Robbyn Lewis (D-Baltimore City), a public transit advocate, will move from the House Health and Government Operations Committee to the Environment and Transportation Committee. She will also chair the committee’s Land Use and Ethics Subcommittee.

Del. Vaughn Stewart (D-Montgomery), current chairman of the House Environment and Transportation Committee’s Subcommittee on Land Use and Ethics, is running to chair the panel’s Subcommittee on Motor Vehicles and Transportation.

Finally, Del. Sheila Ruth (D-Baltimore County) will serve on the Chesapeake Bay Commission. She currently serves on the House Environment and Transportation Committee.

Meanwhile, the 16th District Democratic Central Committee is expected to interview candidates for the House seat vacated by Love on Tuesday, with a final decision expected when the panel meets on July 11.
