Evans, who was 29 at the time of her death on April 20, committed suicide after hanging herself in her New York apartment, the New York City coroner said TMZ.

PEOPLE has reached out to the coroner for comment, but there was no immediate response.

The outlet also reported that friends of Evans told authorities they were unaware she was having emotional problems.

For example, in a March 2024 TikTok video, Evans gave a glimpse of what she was wearing when she met her boyfriend and tried to figure out if he was cheating on her.

“Of course I’m wearing my tires, you have to have great tires,” Evans said through tears. “I’m wearing my big fur coat because it’s armor.”

Evans was also the creator of Club Councila show that began as a TikTok series in 2023 before becoming available for purchase through Amazon Prime. In a TikTok video from last February, Evans wrote, “I’m thinking about how I spent a year of my life and all my savings to create a comedy series about women, by women, only to find out that people don’t spend money on independently produced media, they just watch what’s on their streaming service.”

In a TikTok clip from March, the social media star shared her mental health struggles on the platform and said she started therapy when she was 16.

“When I was 16, I was forcibly placed in a wilderness therapy program and spent almost a year in treatment centers,” she wrote in the caption. “Today, I am a filmmaker and have developed a television show based on my experiences :).”

On April 21, Eva’s sister Lila announced the news of the TikToker’s death via Instagram.

“Please share this post so it reaches everyone it needs to reach,” Lila previously wrote. “Yesterday my family received the news that our sweet, fabulous, creative, caring, hilarious Eva, my beautiful sister, has passed away. After 24 hours I am still in a constant cycle of denial and acceptance so I know how incredible and difficult this news will be to process.”

Lila later wrote, “I wish I had Eva here to refer to because she would have better words and know what I’m not saying,” Lila continued. “I’ll keep this brief so we can plan the next few days, but you’ll be hearing a lot more from me about how much Eva means to me and how different the world will be without her.”

She concluded her caption with, “All my love, Lila.”

Besides Lila, Evans leaves behind her mother Heather and two other sisters, Zoe and Sofi, E! News reported.

Following the announcement of Evans’ death at the time, Julia Fox re-shared Lila’s Instagram post on her Instagram stories, writing, “I can’t believe this. RIP @ITSEVAEVANS I will miss you so much. Thank you for sharing so much of your light with us.”

“Rest in peace, Angel Eva ❤️ you were always kind to me when others didn’t care. I will never forget that kindness.” The hills Star Lo Bosworth commented under Evans’ last Instagram post on April 17.
