The makers of Terminator Zero take the new Netflix series back to its body horror origins

In an interview with Empire, showrunner Mattson Tomlin revealed his approach to the new animated series. Terminator Zero showrunner gives insights into the characters of the new series

Terminator Zero is set in 1997 Japan, where a Japanese scientist named Malcolm Lee finds himself in the crosshairs of those fighting in the future war for his AI creations to fight Skynet. His life is now in the hands of future resistance fighter Eiko, as a new Terminator, voiced by Timothy Olyphant, will stop at nothing until Malcolm is finally defeated. Tomlin describes the series’ new Terminator as “very scary” and “someone you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley.” He has also been given the internal nickname “Creepy Fish Man.”


Tomlin goes into even more detail in his description of Eiko. “The model for Eiko was Kyle Reese. Her motives are unclear at first. But she is hiding something significant, and when it comes to light, it will hit the audience like a damn two-by-four.” Production IG is the Japanese anime studio that Terminator Zero. Kudo, the director of the anime, previously worked as a character designer for the webtoon-based God’s Tower And Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War.
