Spectrum expands gigabit broadband in Kent County, Michigan

The network expansion is part of Spectrum’s multi-year, $5 billion investment in rural broadband expansion through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF).

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan. – Spectrum, the country’s leading rural internet provider*today announced the launch of Spectrum Internet, mobile, television and voice services to more than 440 homes and small businesses in previously unserved and underserved parts of Ada, Algoma, Cannon, Grattan, Sparta and Vergennes townships in Michigan. The expansion of Spectrum’s new fiber network in Kent County is part of the company’s approximately $5 billion in RDOF-related investments in previously unserved rural communities, partially offset by $1.2 billion from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) RDOF auction.

The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to 1.3 million customer locations in 24 states over the next few years. Spectrum has also received more than $700 million in federal broadband expansion grants, which, combined with Spectrum’s investments, will connect an additional 300,000 homes and small businesses.

“Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to previously unserved communities in Michigan and across America through RDOF,” said Thomas Yates, vice president of construction, who is leading Spectrum’s expansions in Michigan and Indiana. “Our investment will enable us to deliver the high-quality broadband, cellular, television and phone services now available in Kent County. We are providing local residents and small businesses with excellent connectivity at highly competitive rates, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service.”

I am excited about Spectrum’s network expansion, which will provide much-needed services to hundreds of Michigan families,” said U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar. “This construction is a welcome addition to the community and will provide greater economic opportunity for its citizens.”

“Expanding access to high-speed internet in rural areas is critical to fostering a robust economy, supporting small businesses, expanding opportunities for students, and more,” said State Senator Rick Outman. “RDOF’s expansion of Spectrum provides the fast, reliable connectivity our rural communities desperately need.”
