Cause of death of Crazy Town frontman Seth Binzer announced by manager

The cause of death of Crazy Town frontman Seth Binzer was announced a week after he was found dead in his Los Angeles home on June 24.

Binzer, whose stage name was Shifty Shellshock, died of an accidental drug overdose, said Crazy Town manager Howie Hubberman. The Los Angeles County coroner confirmed Binzer’s death on June 24, but has not yet released details about Binzer’s cause or manner of death and is currently listing the death as “deferred.”

“We failed Shifty – the people like me who enabled him to do things,” Hubberman told The Guardian. “If we had been successful, he would still be here.”

Binzer’s family issued a statement in memory of the deceased singer.

“For Seth, the world was art – he loved every part of it, from music and fashion to graffiti, skateboarding and his hometown of Los Angeles,” the Binzer family told the Sun. “He loved his three boys more than anything and his devotion to his music and his fans never wavered. Seth struggled with addiction his entire life, he did so on a very public platform which was particularly challenging. God knows he tried so hard to conquer his demons but sadly he lost his battle.

“We are heartbroken by his loss. Seth’s overwhelming presence touched so many. Seth was a tortured soul, but he was beautiful and had a heart of gold,” the statement continued.

Binzer and Crazy Town rose to fame in the early 2000s with their hit single “Butterfly,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2001. The band was formed in Los Angeles in 1995 by Binzer and Bret “Epic” Mazur, and originally performed under the stage name “The Brimstone Sluggers” before changing their name to Crazy Town in 1999. Crazy Town went on hiatus in 2003, but Binzer and Mazur reunited to release a new album, “The Brimstone Sluggers,” in August 2015, before Mazur left the band in 2017.

Binzer leaves behind his three children Halo, Gage and Phoenix.
