Why are no charges filed in Roadecker Watts’ death?

ALTON – More than three weeks have passed since the death of Roadecker “Roe” Watts on the morning of June 7 in Alton, and the case is still under investigation.

Watts, 68, died in his home in a “domestic incident,” according to Alton police.

When The Telegraph contacted Brian G. Brueggemann, communications director for the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, he said Alton police have not filed charges in the case.

Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford said Monday that the Madison County coroner’s office has not yet completed its report. Ford also said the district attorney’s office will not officially take the case without a complete report.

Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn said his office is waiting for toxicology reports, which could take four to six weeks.

At 3:02 a.m. on Friday, June 7, Alton police received a 911 call from a residence in the 200 block of W. 19th St. in Alton. The preliminary investigation revealed it was a domestic incident, Ford said.

A service honoring Watts was held at Morning Star Baptist Church in Alton on Tuesday, June 18. Nearly 200 people attended the service for the man who will be remembered for his smile and pleasant personality.
