Morgan Freeman calls AI deepfake a ‘fraud’ after his voice was replicated on TikTok

Morgan Freeman calls AI deepfake a ‘fraud’ after his voice was replicated on TikTok

Morgan Freeman has one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood and stands by his words.

Therefore, it is no surprise that the acclaimed actor criticized a video circulating on the social media platform TikTok in which a voice was passed off as his own.

“Welcome to my niece’s daily life, narrated by me, Morgan Freeman,” the video begins. The author captioned her post in part, “Uncle Mo was booked and busy, but I finally got him to narrate my journey!”

Even though the user included the hashtag “ai,” some users still fell for the imitation of Freeman’s voice.

The “Million Dollar Baby” actor thanked his supporters on social media for alerting him to the video and stressed the importance of reporting unauthorized use of AI.

Unfortunately for Freeman, this isn’t the first time his name and likeness have been used without his permission. The vice president of Freeman’s production company, Revelations, was previously sent a video (from her cousins) that appeared to show her boss firing her.

“I could tell it wasn’t real,” Lori McCreary said today while participating in the Produced By panel “AI: What Every Producer Needs to Know,” according to Deadline. But a second incident almost tricked her.

McCreary says she was sent a video of Freeman apparently promoting a book. McCreary thought the deepfake was so authentic that she called the actor’s makeup artist to confirm whether or not it was real.

In 2021, a video titled “This is Not Morgan Freeman” went viral on the internet, featuring Freeman in both video and audio form. The video highlighted the advancements in artificial intelligence and fostered immense discussion.

Several celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Tom Cruise, have also been victims of AI deepfakes.
