Ice Spice chooses her song of the summer

Ice Spice knows a thing or two about making hits (she’s a four-time top 10 Hot 100 hit), and she’s revealed her pick for this year’s song of the summer.

Today I caught up with the “Barbie World” rapper looking glamorous on the 2024 BET Awards red carpet, and Ice Spice thinks there’s not much debate when it comes to the top song of the summer.

“I think it’s ‘Espresso.’ I think we have no choice – it’s ‘Espresso,’ yes,” she said, saluting Sabrina Carpenter’s anthem.

“Espresso” is spending its 11th week atop the Billboard Hot 100. It is currently at No. 4 on the latest chart edition, having peaked at No. 3. “Espresso” has rebounded and is spending its sixth week atop the Billboard Global Excl. US chart.

Carpenter may be competing with herself, as she produced another song from the summer contender, her “Espresso” follow-up, “Please Please Please,” which topped the Hot 100 as her first No. 1 hit and now sits at No. 5.

With her first pair Year 2000! Ice Spice doesn’t seem to have a song for the summer yet, but all hope is not lost. The 24-year-old’s highly anticipated debut album is out on July 26, and there’s still plenty of time for another hit single before the end of the month.

Carpenter and Ice Spice met at a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles in February 2023. Footage shows the two sharing a warm exchange and posing for photos together.
