It’s high time for a new Idaho state song

It’s high time for a new Idaho state song

From what I understand, the two college students who wrote the lyrics were expelled from the university and banished to the South Seas! Maybe it worked in 1915 when people gathered around the piano with family and friends. Most old-time state songs sound familiar. I can’t tell much difference between “My Old Kentucky Home” (apparently racist according to liberal media) and “Back Home in Indiana” which was popularized by a guy from Alabama!

Idaho’s state song is a product of its time, with words like Stream It fell out of use around 1935. I can imagine the songwriters in their straw hats and red and white striped jackets.

What could replace “Here We Have Idaho?” I suggest “Idaho Cowboy” by Reckless Kelly. I believe the uptempo far better reflects the work ethic that makes the state the economic envy of the entire country.

The old song is better suited to eating ice cream or just before an afternoon nap.

I could imagine Governor Little leading a rousing rendition of Idaho Cowboy in the Capitol Rotunda in Boise. When he’s in campaign mode or dressed for a carnival, he looks much more like the character in the newer song.

I think he needs to speak out on this difficult issue. I’m not sure he could get a vote in Parliament on the change, but maybe we could have more than one state song. One for your grandmother, one for everyone else. The change could come into effect by July 3, 2025.
