IU basketball’s Kanaan Carlyle attends Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp – The Daily Hoosier

Kanaan Carlyle, a sophomore at IU, is learning from one of the best this week and earning an invitation to the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp.

Carlyle is one of 12 student-athletes who received an invitation to the elite camp led by 19-year-old NBA All-Star Chris Paul.

The camp, which takes place in Las Vegas from June 30 to July 3, teaches participants what it takes to play at the highest level and how to prepare for the hurdles that await them in college and then in the NBA.

It’s the same camp that Jalen Hood-Schifino attended in 2022 before his Big Ten Freshman of the Year season.

Carlyle, who is already projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, transferred to Indiana after a strong first season at Stanford.

The 6’3″ guard averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in his only season with the Cardinals, shooting 32.0% (32-of-100) from the 3-point line. The Atlanta native scored in double figures in 15 of his 23 games and scored over 20 points in three games.

“Kanaan is a dynamic ball-in-hand player who has the length and skill to create scoring opportunities for himself and others,” IU coach Mike Woodson said when Carlyle signed in the spring. “His rebounding skills pair well with his shooting style. His length, quickness and mentality make him an effective defender for our ball club. We are very excited to welcome him and his family to IU.”

Carlyle was named to the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team with honorable mention, was named National Player of the Week by the Associated Press, was lauded as the Dick Vitale Diaper Dandy of the Week and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Jan. 2, 2024, after scoring 28 points on 6-of-8 three-point shooting to go along with eight rebounds and two blocks against No. 4 Arizona on Dec. 31.
