Morgan Freeman criticizes the “unauthorized” AI that replicates his voice in a TikTok video

He may have been the voice of God, but he doesn’t mind others imitating that voice for him.

87-year-old Morgan Freeman criticizes a TikTok voiceover that uses AI to mimic his iconic voice.

The Oscar winner released a statement on social media and wrote:

“Thank you to my incredible fans for their vigilance and support in exposing the unauthorized use of an AI voice impersonating me. Your efforts help ensure that authenticity and integrity remain our top priority. I am grateful,” he wrote, adding the hashtags #AI #Fraud #Impersonation #IdentityProtection.

Under the title “Justine’s Camera Roll,” the TikTok account shared a video pretending to be Freeman’s niece – “Narrated by me, Morgan Freeman,” says the voice-over, which sounds similar to Freeman’s baritone, who is known as the narrator in nature documentaries such as “Life on Our Planet” and was also the voice of God in “Bruce Almighty.”

The creator later described the video as an “obvious joke.”

The clip recounts Freeman’s “niece’s” day, saying, “Justine begged for money for what she described as a cultural experience in Spain,” while video clips show the girl seemingly taking a tour of Spain.

The AI version continues: “She asked for my credit card to book a supposed little activity for her birthday. Imagine my surprise when I was charged for the cost of a yacht. Basically, she embezzled money.”

At the end of the video, the AI voice says, “Apparently I just can’t say no to her.” The TikTok user captioned the video, “Uncle Mo was booked and busy but I finally got him to tell me about my trip!…EMBRACE!?” She also added the hashtag #ai.

Comments on the video revealed that not all viewers realized that it was not Freeman who narrated the film.

“They’re on Twitter thinking this is really Morgan Freeman,” wrote one person, while another said, “People don’t know this is AI 😭 we are lost.”

Another viewer commented, “He’s so funny,” apparently thinking it was actually Freeman.

“If people don’t know this is AI, we’re lost,” said one commentator. / SplashNews.com

Freeman is the latest celebrity to fall victim to an artificial intelligence that imitated his identity without his consent.

In January, AI-generated deepfake “porn” photos of Taylor Swift went viral on X (formerly Twitter).

In May, Scarlett Johansson criticized OpenAI’s new ChatGPT feature for using a voice that sounded “eerily similar” to hers, while the Marvel star also revealed that she had turned down a collaboration with the company.

In June, Sheryl Crow called Drake “hateful” for using an AI-generated version of Tupac Shakur’s voice in his Kendrick Lamar diss track “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

In a follow-up video shared on June 30, the creator defended her actions for the Freeman AI voice, saying she was “having a little fun.”

“I just thought it was funny, OK? … It’s obviously a joke, but people have no judgment,” she added. “I thought it was very obvious that this was a joke. And now Uncle Mo is mad at me. If anyone on his team is watching, I’m so sorry.”
