The Indian team lines up for the World T20 Trophy title celebrations

Team India were crowned World T20 Champions when they defeated South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup. India made history by becoming only the third team to win the World Cup twice at the Kensington Oval Barbados. Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s last appearance in a T20I will always be remembered as it finally ended India’s 11-year ICC title drought. India’s next outing is against Zimbabwe and the experienced players have been resting for a while.

The Men in Blue will play five T20Is in Zimbabwe starting July 6. Much to the dismay of the Indian team, they are stuck in Barbados with Hurricane Beryl on Monday (July 1). The Category 4 storm has become extremely dangerous, with winds reaching up to 209 km/h and causing massive damage on the islands. At the moment, the Indian team is stuck on the Caribbean islands. Five players from the Indian T20 World Cup team (Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed) are scheduled to take part in the Zimbabwe tour but are stuck on the Caribbean islands.

The start of the IND vs ZIM T20I series is less than 5 days away and the availability of all these players is still unclear. The opening match of the series will be played in Harare on July 6. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named 15 players for the series and if these 5 players do not play, it will be extremely difficult for the Indian team to field suitable 11 players. Shubman Gill has been named as the captain of the side while heavyweights like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and others from the victorious T20 World Cup team have been rested.
