Worker at Waste Management in Whitestown dies for the second time

WHITESTOWN, Indiana – For the second time in about six months, a Waste Management worker in Whitestown has died in what police called an “industrial accident.”

On Tuesday, shortly after 2 p.m., Whitestown police were called to the waste disposal facility at 6252 South Indianapolis Road after receiving a report of a person being struck and seriously injured.

Police said emergency responders arrived on scene and determined the employee had died as a result of a traumatic injury. Police said the employee was struck by a work vehicle. It was a work-related accident.

The deceased was identified as Johnny Williams, 59, of Indianapolis. Boone County Coroner Justin Sparks confirmed the death was an accident and that Williams died from multiple blunt force injuries.

IOSHA confirmed the worker’s death and said a safety inspection had been initiated at the Waste Management site.

Just last December, 44-year-old Anthony Osby of Indianapolis died while working at the same waste disposal facility. Osby was struck by a “multi-thousand-pound concrete block” that fell on him in another reported workplace accident on December 11, 2023.

Waste Management issued the following statement to FOX59/CBS4 Wednesday afternoon:

Safety is WM’s top priority. The incident that occurred yesterday is currently under investigation and all related information will be released by Whitestown Police. The WM team extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased..
