The Apple Watch Series 10 may not look so unique after all

In brief

  • The 2024 Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3 may look like their recent predecessors and feature no major design changes.
  • Previous rumors suggested a unique external appearance and a new magnetic attachment mechanism for the watch straps.
  • It is unclear whether Apple has postponed these major external changes or has canceled them altogether.

For over three years, we’ve been coming across redesigned Apple Watch concepts and rumors. While early leaks suggested that the changes might finally be implemented when the Apple Watch X launches this fall, more recent leaks claim otherwise. So if you’ve been waiting for a revamped smartwatch, you might have to wait forever. The Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3 will reportedly feature a similar design to the previous generation models.

A fresh Bloomberg The report reiterates recent rumors and suggests that the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10 will not look so unique. It states:

“The third-generation Apple Watch Ultra will look roughly the same as the original this year, and the other watch models still resemble the Series 4 introduced in 2018.”

We originally expected the company to launch an Apple Watch X with a flat design and a new strap attachment mechanism that relies on magnets. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll see these long-awaited changes this year, if at all.

However, the Apple Watch Series 10 could potentially see the 41mm variant being abandoned in favor of a 49mm variant. The case could also be thinner, but without a different design language.

Since the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 introduced the first CPU boost in three years, we don’t expect the 2024 watches to be significantly more powerful either. Ultimately, Apple will likely unveil the new watches in September – during the iPhone 16 launch event. So we should get concrete answers relatively soon.
