The Bookseller – News – Lisa Jewell, Lex Croucher and Rebecca Kuang shortlisted for the TikTok Book Awards

Lisa Jewell, Lex Croucher and Rebecca Kuang are among the authors nominated for the TikTok Book Awards in the UK and Ireland.

Readers can vote for their winners via the TikTok app’s Voting Hub. The categories are: Book of the Year (UK and Ireland), Book of the Year (International), BookTok Breakthrough Author, BookTok Author of the Year, BookTok Rising Star Author, Indie Bookstore of the Year.

The jury included Philip Jones, editor of The booksellerContent creator Jack Edwards, last year’s TikTok Creator of the Year Eden Victoria, Dan Conway, CEO of the Publishers Association and Selina Brown, founder and CEO of the Black British Book Festival. Authors Samantha Shannon and Sara Cox were also part of the judging panel.

jeweler None of this is true (Century) is nominated for Book of the Year (Great Britain and Ireland), alongside Croucher’s Gwen and Art are not in love (Bloomsbury YA), Caleb Azumah Nelson Small worlds (Penguin) and Caroline O’Donoghue’s The Rachel Incident (Small, brown).

In the running for the title “Book of the Year (International)” is Kuang’s Yellowface (The Borough Press), Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth wing (Piatkus), Cassandra Clares Sword Catcher (goal) and Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyahs Chain Gang All Stars (Vintage).

Romance author Talia Hibbert is in the running for the BookTok Breakthrough Author title. Ben Alderson, Martin Knights and Claire Wright are also in the running for the award.

The four-strong shortlist for BookTok Creator of the Year includes @maisie_matilda, @zai_rambles, @cultofbooks and @literaryfling, while @greendragonbooknooks, @fictionalfates, @jpreads6 and @booksonthebedside are nominated for BookTok Rising Star Creator.

Shortlisted for Indie Bookstore of the Year are Imaginarium Books, The Book Shop By The Sea, The Little Bookshop and House of Books & Friends.

Jones said: “Judging the awards this year was a joy: that there is so much enthusiasm, dedication and interest in discussing books is a real gift to the industry. I found the shortlists and the people behind the shortlists to be wide-ranging in their view, diverse in their perspectives and generous in their approach to the different genres, books and authors that were the subject of the BookTok lens.

“These awards are a time to celebrate all the hard work that looks so effortless, but also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of these voices and their work. Congratulations to all the finalists.”

Victoria added: “It was an honour to be named Creator of the Year at the TikTok Book Awards last year. Returning as a judge was incredibly exciting and I see it as a wonderful way to celebrate and promote the BookTok community.”

The winners will be announced at a live event on July 25th.
