Study shows: THIS is Michigan’s most commonly used slang word

I think one of the biggest problems that non-native speakers have with English speakers is that they don’t understand the way we speak. Other languages are much more direct, but the English language is so slow, sloppy and wavering that it can be difficult to understand certain expressions or meanings.

Heck, sometimes even words don’t make sense to people who don’t normally speak English. We’re constantly making up new ways of saying things and slang for things, constantly changing the language.

There’s a study recently done by Best Life to find out what slang expression is most used in Michigan, and I have to say, it’s pretty terrible. In my opinion, not only is the slang terrible, but so is the study. Apparently, the most used slang word in Michigan is fudgie:

If you have a Fudgie in Michigan, then you are a tourist in the northern Lower Peninsula, or Mackinac Island. This name derives from the fact that so many of these tourists spend most of their time in the area’s popular fudge shops.

First of all, where the heck did they even come from? I’ve honestly never heard anyone use that term. I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life and have never seen or heard anyone use the term “fudgy” to describe a tourist. I even spent a weekend on Mackinac Island a few years ago and the only fudge I heard of was the stuff they made in the windows.

I don’t know about you, but if someone ever called me a “fudgie,” I would throw a pie at them.
