play

Ready for some baseball… some Monday Night Baseball? The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp will play a rare split International League Baseball series starting Monday, with three home games followed by three away games at the Charlotte Knights. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming Triple-A baseball series.

WHO: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp vs. Charlotte.

When: Monday to Saturday.

  • M: 19:05
  • T: 19:05
  • Wed: 18:05
  • THURSDAY: 6:35 p.m., in Charlotte
  • F: 7:04 p.m., in Charlotte
  • SA: 6:05 p.m., in Charlotte

Where: 121 Financial Ballpark, Monday-Wednesday; Truist Field, Charlotte, NC, Thursday-Saturday.

Series review: The Jumbo Shrimp opened the second half of the Triple-A season with decisive hits in their home series against the Nashville Sounds. Jacksonville won three of the first five games of the second half, including Saturday’s 5-3 victory.

To mark: There’s nothing better than starting the second half with a win, and that’s exactly what Will Banfield did in Game 2 against Nashville on Tuesday night, hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning to break a scoreless stalemate and give the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-0 victory.

Crustacean sensation: Here’s a name to remember. Evan Fitterer made a statement in his Jumbo Shrimp debut on Thursday, his first-ever game in Triple-A and one day after his 24th birthday. The former fifth-round draft pick from Aliso Niguel, Calif., struck out seven batters in five scoreless innings.

On board: The Knights, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, were in last place in the International League East for the first half of the season, but have shown more power in the second half. Former Wolfson High School pitcher Mike Clevinger could return to the First Coast as part of a rehab assignment with Charlotte, although his next outing is uncertain due to reported neck stiffness.

Fireworks at the baseball stadium before the 4th of July

Fun at the baseball stadium: Boom! The traditional fireworks display returns to 121 Financial Ballpark, but will take place on Wednesday night (on the holiday itself, it’s Charlotte’s turn to host). All gates open at 4:30 p.m. before first pitch at 6:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the gates can receive a patriotic hat, and fans who register in advance can enjoy a 90-minute buffet that includes hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, pulled pork and various sides starting at 5 p.m.

Expected pitchers on Monday: To be determined.
