Escaping war and finding a stable future

Escaping war and finding a stable future

01.07.2024 Democratic Republic of Congo (International Christian Concern) – Solange’s life has been full of challenges since she fled the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for Uganda. Her children became ill upon arrival and she had no income. Although ICC purchased pigs, goats and chickens to feed her family, many of these animals succumbed to disease at an early age. Despite these hardships, Solange is grateful for what she has left.

“Due to the wars in my country, I had to go to Uganda for safety reasons and I had no relatives to help me, but I thank ICC for the support they gave me. I managed to cook food for my children for quite a while. They can sleep well now and I was able to pay the medical bills for my children when they got sick,” she said.

Solange continues to face great difficulties with five children and three grandchildren. Living in a remote area makes it even more difficult, especially during the rainy season when muddy roads hinder transportation. Despite these obstacles, ICC is once again helping her open a small shop selling household goods, giving her hope for a more stable future.

“I don’t know how to express my gratitude for the immense support and help I received during my time as a refugee. Your generosity in providing me with mattresses, blankets, food and financial assistance has made an incredible impact on my life and I am eternally grateful for your unwavering support,” she said. “You have not only given me a comfortable place to rest, but have also brought a sense of dignity and security back into my life.”
