Morgan Freeman condemns AI imitations of his voice

Actor Morgan Freeman recently voiced criticism of imitations of his voice created by unauthorized AI programs. Freeman’s voice is undoubtedly one of the most iconic in modern cinema and is used extensively in narration.

For example, Freeman has used his voice as a skilled narrator in films such as The Convicts, The journey of the penguins And Million Dollar BabyHowever, the iconic quality of his timbre has made Freeman a popular actor in the field of AI impersonations.

Recently, a series of videos surfaced on TikTok created by a woman claiming to be the actor’s “niece.” However, Freeman had made it clear that he is not a fan of the technology and recently thanked his fans for calling her out.

“Thank you to my incredible fans for their vigilance and support in exposing the unauthorized use of an AI voice impersonating me,” the actor wrote on Twitter. “Your dedication helps ensure that authenticity and integrity remain our top priority. I am grateful.”

Artificial intelligence has been a frequent topic in the news lately, especially in the entertainment industry. Late last year, for example, Scarlett Johansson sued an AI app called Lisa AI for using her image in an online advertisement without her permission.

Johansson’s lawyer noted at the time: “We do not take these matters lightly. As is our usual practice in such cases, we will pursue all legal remedies available to us.” Interestingly, ChatGPT/Open AI also used Johansson’s voice, even though she refused permission.

It was thought that Johansson’s voice would reassure AI users and consumers, but after OpenAI declined the offer, the actor’s voice was used anyway. Johansson responded: “My friends, family and the public noticed how much the latest system called ‘Sky’ sounded like me. When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angry and incredulous that (they) wanted a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and the news outlets couldn’t tell the difference.”

ChatGPT quickly removed the voice. Elsewhere, director Ron Howard recently noted that “AI is not going away,” with Apollo13 AndA beautiful spirit The filmmaker explains: “It’s reality. We need to make it a tool. AI is about taking advantage of the world around us, especially the internet.”

However, it is clear that not everyone is as open to AI as Howard. This is especially true for Freeman and Johansson, both of whom have already fallen victim to its onslaught.
