Dubai-based Taaleem acquires golf rights for Britain’s famous private school Harrow

Dubai: The education sector in the UAE and the Gulf countries continues to see a brisk business activity, with Dubai-based Taaleem securing the rights to Britain’s Harrow International Schools Ltd., which was known over the centuries as the place where British prime ministers, aristocrats and socialites received their education.

In addition to the United Arab Emirates, the framework agreement also gives Taaleem rights to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. This fits well with DFM-listed Taalem’s plans to build a regional presence and expand its revenue streams.

“These Harrow International Schools will join a prestigious global network of schools that apply the ethos and standards of Harrow School in the UK, one of the most prestigious schools in the world,” it said in a statement.

The origins of Harrow School – a famous British private school alongside Eton – date back to 1572.

This valued partnership (with Harrow) fits seamlessly into Taaleem’s strategy to enter the super-premium school segment and expand its presence across the Gulf region.

On DFM, Taaleem shares are trading at 3.75 dirhams, just below the 52-week high of 4.3 dirhams. The company had presented positive figures in its last financial reports, supported by a continued strong enrollment of students in its network. New schools are also expected to open in the near future.

Harrow connections

In the future, the new ties with Harrow will benefit sales and profits, analysts say.

“An education at Harrow School is renowned for its outstanding quality, extensive extra-curricular program and strong emphasis on character development and leadership skills,” the statement said. “Harrow School’s notable graduates include several British Prime Ministers, as well as writers, actors and other influential figures.”
