Michigan State’s Malik Hall reportedly gets NBA summer league contract

After five seasons at Michigan State, Malik Hall gets a chance to realize his dream.

The forward, who went undrafted in this week’s 2024 NBA Draft, is set to sign with the Charlotte Hornets for summer league play on Sunday night, according to a report from DraftExpress.com. He worked out for several teams ahead of the draft, which took place on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hall, 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, is the second former Spartan from last season’s undrafted team to earn a chance in summer league. Guard Tyson Walker, who led Michigan State in scoring with 18.4 points per game, signed with the Suns on Sunday.

During his five years with the Spartans, Hall showed his versatility, starting 64 times in 153 career games. He averaged 15.9 minutes per game as a freshman on a team led by Cassius Winston and Xavier Tillman that won the Big Ten regular-season title before the season was abruptly ended due to the pandemic.

Hall’s playing time increased each year, but his 2022-23 season was marred by a foot injury that forced him back to a fifth year. Last season, he set career highs in points (12.7), rebounds (5.7) and assists (1.9) as the Spartans lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Hornets have two summer league games scheduled – July 6-10 in Sacramento, California, and July 12-22 in Las Vegas.
