Hairy Bikers star says he ‘misses’ his famous beard after losing it during chemotherapy

Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has said he “misses” his beard after losing it during chemotherapy.

The television star and chef gave an update on his cancer diagnosis during a chat with his on-screen partner Si King.

“But it’s the beard I miss,” Myers said in an episode of his podcast Worry Box Uncleand added: “I was born with this beard.”

He added: “I just miss my beard – the feeling because my skin is different and peachy. No, I want my beard back. I’m happy with my hair – I think a bald head and a beard is just right for a biker.”

He added that he was “doing well considering the circumstances.”

Myers first announced his diagnosis on the podcast in May, telling listeners that he would be taking a break from filming and attending food festivals over the summer.

“Anyway, Kingy, I need to come clean now,” he said. “I haven’t been feeling so well lately and I have to go through chemotherapy now, you all know that, so it’s going to be a bit quieter for me this year.”

“I won’t be filming, I can’t go to some festivals, maybe it will work out for some, but this year is a total loss for us.”

The 64-year-old continued: “I would love it if people would respect my privacy and just let me do my thing and give Si and our team the support they need. That would be great.

“But you see, the prognosis is fine, I’m going to get well again. I just have to stick to myself, take care of myself, eat properly and put this mess behind me, sell books and be a happy person. So that’s where I’m at,” he said.

Myers met King in 1995 and the couple launched their first television cooking show. The Hairy Bikers Cookbookin 2004.

He took part in the 11th series of Be sure to come and dance 2013 with Karen Hauer, where they made it to the seventh week.
