Ferns striker Paige Satchell becomes free agent after being released by London club

Football fame Paige Satchell is looking for a new club after leaving the English Women’s Championship club London City Lionesses.

Satchell (26) joined the Lionesses shortly after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup when her contract with A-League club Wellington Phoenix expired.

The Lionesses have listed Satchell among nine players who will not remain on the squad for next season.

Satchell became a free agent on July 1, 2024, one day after her contract with the English club expired.

Ronald Thompson, London City Lionesses’ Director of Football, said: “I would like to thank all the players for their hard work last season. They were crucial to our survival and we wish them all the best for the future.”

Ferns teammate Grace Neville (24) is also running out of contract but was not included in the list of released players. She signed a one-year contract extension in mid-2023 after being the Lionesses’ regular right-back since 2019 when she joined from Arsenal.

The 2023/24 season was a turbulent one for the Lionesses, with a change of head coach, new ownership and a flirtation with relegation before securing eighth place in the twelve-team competition.

Born in Rotorua, Satchell has been a professional player for five seasons and has played for SC Sand (Women’s Bundesliga) as well as Canberra United, Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix in the Liberty A-League.
