Mets announcer Keith Hernandez would love nothing more than to launch inflatable grimace costumes

New York Mets commentator Keith Hernandez wants to inflict damage grimace. At least some replicas of him.

That statement raises two questions. The first of which is, “Who is Grimace?” He’s a taste bud-shaped mascot from a fictional McDonald’s show who has given the Mets cause for hope after a rocky start to the year.

The next question is, “Why does Keith want to harm this man’s replicas? Isn’t he a lucky charm?” That may be the case, but Hernandez has some alternative plans for all the replicas of everyone’s favorite taste buds.

During Sunday’s game between the Mets and the Houston AstrosThe camera panned to a woman carrying an inflatable replica of Grimace.

Out of the blue, Hernandez voiced his intrusive thoughts and said he wanted to impale the costume.

“Wouldn’t you like to take an ice pick and burst it, Gare?” Hernandez said to live commentator Gary Cohen. “I would love to do it.”

Thankfully, Cohen, like a normal person, said no. But it does make you think: What would Hernandez do if he actually had a sharp object near one of those costumes?

Hopefully no one ever has to find out.
