Suspected herdsmen hack rice farmers from Ogun to death

A rice farmer named Taiwo Paul was murdered by suspected herdsmen in Kata area of ​​Ewekoro Local Government Area of ​​Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro It was further revealed that Paul was allegedly hacked to death by the suspects on his rice plantation in the community, while another farmer named Peter Danjuma was electrocuted in Isoyin area of ​​Atan-Ijebu.

The State Police Command confirmed the two deaths in separate telephone conversations with PUNCH Metro on Saturday.

Our correspondent learnt that 26-year-old Paul was found fighting for his life in a pool of blood on Thursday after he was allegedly attacked by the suspects.

The command’s spokesman, Omolola Odutola, told our correspondent that the rice farmer left his house in Yobo village to check the crops because he was suspicious of some herdsmen who had been roaming the area in the past.

When Paul did not return home on time, our correspondent learned that his twin brother Kehinde had gone to the rice farm to look for him.

PUNCH Metro learned that Kehinde heard a faint groaning in the distance and discovered his twin brother dying in a pool of blood, bleeding uncontrollably from severe cuts on his hands and right leg.

PUNCH Metro It was further learnt that all efforts by the deceased’s brother and other villagers to rush Paul to Ifo General Hospital failed as the victim reportedly died en route.

Odutola further stated that a doctor on duty at the hospital confirmed Paul’s death upon arrival.

She noted that preliminary investigations have been launched to arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

She said: “Ewekoro police investigators visited the scene and hospital for examination and took photographs. The body of the deceased was later handed over to the family for burial.”

“Preliminary investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further discreet investigation.”

Meanwhile, another farmer from Isoyin area, identified only as Danjuma, died of electrocution while feeding birds at a poultry farm on Friday morning.

PUNCH Metro also learned that he was taken to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead.

“The detectives of the Atan-Ijebu Police Command visited the scene of the incident and photographs were taken.”
