Man armed with knife shot dead by police in Taylor Mill

A man who attacked a family member with a knife was shot by a police officer in Taylor Mill on Sunday evening, officials said.

Police did not comment on the man’s condition.

According to dispatchers and Taylor Mill police, officers from Taylor Mill and Covington responded to a report of a person with a gun on Grand Avenue just before 3 p.m.

“Officers encountered the suspect inside the home threatening someone and brandishing a knife,” Taylor Mill said in a press release. “One shot was fired. Kentucky State Police responded to the investigation.”

The suspect’s name has not been released.

Many jurisdictions in Kentucky do not investigate incidents in which their own officers shoot citizens. The Kentucky State Police often offers to conduct independent investigations at the request of local authorities.

Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders said no officers were injured in the incident, adding that the family member who was threatened with a knife did not require medical treatment.

Taylor Mill Police said there is no threat to the public and asked anyone with information to call Kentucky State Police at 859-428-1212.

This is the second time police have shot someone in the Greater Cincinnati area in the past week. On Thursday, 48-year-old Juan Mack was shot and killed outside the Music Hall in Over-the-Rhine. Police said he stabbed a woman multiple times before leading officers on a chase. He was armed with a gun at the time of the shooting, investigators said.
