Is a live-action Atlantis movie coming soon? New speculation explained

Viral images of a live-action version of Disney’s Atlantis: The Empire of the Lost World Fans are wondering if a remake will come.

The 2001 animated film is about Milo Thatch, a well-read cartographer with the voice of Michael J. Fox, who leads a group of mercenaries to the lost city of Atlantis.

Is Disney developing a live-action Atlantis film?

Unfortunately, images of a live action Atlantis: The Empire of the Lost Worldincluding pictures of Millie Bobby Brown as Kida, are fakes and merely AI representations of what a remake of the animated film might look like.

Also a live action Atlantis: The Empire of the Lost World is not one of Disney’s upcoming remakes, which include Snow White, Vaiana – The wonderful world of loveAnd Lilo & Stitch.

Interestingly, audience interest in a remake is not limited to recent AI images or fan-written posts. Kirk Wise, one of the animated film’s directors, put an end to remake rumors back in 2020.

According to him (via MovieWeb), the news about a Atlantis New edition “was published exclusively on the Internet:”

“I’ve only heard on the Internet that there were rumors that ‘Atlantis’ might be tackled as a live-action film. I have not received any independent confirmation of this.”

Gary Trousdale, another Atlantis: The Empire of the Lost WorldThe directors of confirmed Disney’s disinterest and noted that “‘Atlantis’ was not on the agenda:”

“I actually heard the opposite, that Atlantis was not on the agenda at the last major convention where Disney presented its five-year plan (D23 Expo).”

Will Disney ever develop a live-action adaptation of Atlantis?

Although the comments by Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale are several years old and despite the ongoing interest in a Atlantis Although Disney has released a remake of the early 2000s film, there is still no indication that it has greenlit a live-action adaptation.

Whether that will change is unknown, especially as Disney’s live-action remakes continue to be criticized by fans for exploiting nostalgia.

Due to the fact that Atlantis: The Empire of the Lost World flopped at the box office in 2001, it would be interesting to see if a live-action adaptation could outdo the original.
