Chris Paul signs a contract with the San Antonio Spurs after his release on Sunday from the Golden State Warriors, according to several reports.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the contract is for one year and worth over $11 million.

Golden State released Paul before Sunday’s deadline that would have guaranteed him a $30 million contract for next season. The Warriors reportedly looked for trade partners for Paul before Sunday’s deadline and released him after failing to find one. Now Paul is headed to the Spurs.

Paul played a single season in San Francisco, where he was a backcourt mate and backup to Stephen Curry. At 39, his scoring skills are significantly less than they were during his All-Star prime. But Paul is still a capable playmaker and playmaker who can score in spurts.

In 58 games, including 18 starts last season, Paul averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 turnovers and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 44.1% from the field and 37.1% from 3-point range. He could be of interest to a competitive team looking for depth and leadership at their point guard.

The Warriors released Paul as they look to rebuild their roster around Curry in hopes of competing in the West next season.

The future of five-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson in Golden State is uncertain as free agency begins. Talks with the 13-year Warriors veteran have reportedly fallen through as he enters the market as an unrestricted free agent. The Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers are among the registered teams Thompson plans to meet with him in free agency.
