Olathe police are investigating a woman’s death as a homicide.

In a news release Sunday afternoon, Sergeant John Moncayo said officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of East Oakview St. around 5:53 p.m. Saturday.

“When officers arrived, they found an unconscious 72-year-old white woman with significant injuries,” Moncayo said in the press release.

According to recorded radio traffic, Olathe firefighters and paramedics from Johnson County’s Med-Act program were dispatched to a “medical call” at 5:54 p.m.

These units were instructed to remain in the area until police could confirm that it was safe for them to enter.

The police secured the crime scene and at 6:20 p.m. the firefighters were allowed to enter the house.

“The woman was pronounced dead at the scene,” Moncayo said. “Based on the information received, this case is being investigated as a homicide.”

Moncayo said a 40-year-old male relative of the woman had been in custody for 48 hours and police were not looking for anyone else.

Police did not release the woman’s name or provide any further details about her relationship to the arrested man.

Olathe Police are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with information about the homicide to contact them at 913-971-6363 or the TIPS line at 816-474-8477.
