Bath asks residents for input on its municipal climate action plan

The City of Ships has launched an initiative to update its municipal climate action plan, the Resilient Bath Plan.

“The City of Bath has been working on climate action for over a decade and recently highlighted climate action as a key objective in its 2023 Comprehensive Plan,” said Rod Melanson, Bath’s Director of Sustainability and Environment.

The planning process for Resilient Bath began in January and is scheduled to conclude in October, with the city gathering citizen input, participating in events and presentations, and establishing a series of advisory groups made up of local stakeholders, Bath City Hall staff and experts.

Resilient Bath will identify strategies to reduce planet-warming climate pollution from greenhouse gas emissions and invest in solutions such as clean energy, while building Bath residents’ resilience to the impacts of climate change, including more intense storms, more frequent flooding and unprecedented seasonal changes.

According to the Resilient Bath factsheet, key focus areas include clean energy and efficient buildings, connected transport and mobility, and intelligent waste and water management.

Bath invites residents to take an online survey through SurveyMonkey that the city will be conducting throughout the summer. Participants will have a chance to win one of four $25 gift certificates to Main Street Bath.

At the last Regional School Unit 1 board meeting on June 24, board members voted to adopt a climate change resolution that included a policy document and plans to form a working group by the end of August 2024.
