Singer says children have “completely ruined” her music career

Lily Allen said her two children “complete her,” but the birth of their children “completely ruined” her music career.

The 38-year-old British singer has two daughters with her ex-husband Sam Cooper – eleven-year-old Ethel Mary and nine-year-old Marnie Rose.

When asked if she had to rethink her career after having her children, Allen joked, “Yes, my children ruined my career.”

“I love them and they make me complete, but in terms of my pop star status they have totally ruined it,” she added on the Radio Times podcast.

Allthe daughter of actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, said she decided to step back from the spotlight to focus on raising her daughters after feeling her own parents were “quite absent” when she was growing up.

“It really annoys me when people say you can have it all, because honestly, you can’t,” she said.

“Some people put their careers before their children and that’s their right, but my parents were pretty absent when I was a child. I think that left some bad scars that I don’t want to repeat.

“I decided to take a step back and focus on them. I’m glad I did because I think they’re pretty versatile.”
