Rachel Stevens on how she deals with her daughter and follows in her famous footsteps

Rachel Stevens has said she is “encouraging but not pushy” with her daughter as she begins to follow in her famous footsteps.

The 44-year-old former singer of S Club 7 is the mother of two daughters, eight-year-old Minnie and eleven-year-old Amelie, who plays the role of young Cosette in “Les Misérables” in the West End.

In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Stevens talked about how proud she is of her children and how she tries to pass on the advice she learned during her time in the entertainment industry.

She said: “Amelie really runs the whole thing herself – I am encouraging but not pushy, and based on all my professional experience I try to give her the best advice possible and be there for her questions.”

The singer added that she told her two daughters that maybe someone would open the door for them, but that they would have to be the ones to “go through and prove what they can do.”

“Who knows where life will take Amelie, but as long as she is doing something she is passionate about and she is happy as her mother, that is all I could wish for,” she added.

Amelie, who accompanied her mother to the photo shoot, said the best advice her mother gave her was to “never give up on your dreams” and that you can achieve anything if you “focus on something you love.”

The young star said she found the idea that her mother was a pop star before she was born “really weird” and “funny.”

She added: “It’s cool that I have a famous mom. I love watching S Club 7 videos.”

Stevens rose to fame as part of this successful band between 1999 and 2003 and later launched a successful solo career.

The singer said she was about the same age as her daughter when she went to a Kylie Minogue concert that changed her life.

Recalling the performance, she said, “I was in awe, I was mesmerized. And I’ll never forget saying to my mother, ‘This is what I want to do one day.'”

Years later, at the age of 19, she happened to meet some music producers in the canteen of Sony Records, where her younger brother worked, and thus began her journey with the popular band from the noughties.

Stevens said: “I guess it was one of those ‘meant to be’ moments – and in a way that’s what happened to Amelie too.”

The singer had Amelie and Minnie with her ex-husband Alex Bourne.
