Michigan State’s Tyson Walker joins Phoenix Suns Summer League team

Former Michigan State guard Tyson Walker will get his chance to play at the next level this summer.

According to the Michigan State University basketball team, Walker has joined the Phoenix Suns Summer League team. The Suns are owned by former Michigan State player and national champion Mat Ishbia.

Walker averaged 18.4 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals in his final season with the Spartans and was named to the All-Big Ten second team. Walker was a key part of Michigan State’s offense with his ability to spot shots, create good shots and get to the basket. He has the potential to be a helpful addition for the Suns if he makes the roster with an impressive Summer League performance.

Known for his outstanding performance at Michigan State under legendary coach Tom Izzo, Walker is ready to make a splash in the Summer League. Known for his exceptional shooting guard skills, Walker brings a strong combination of scoring ability, defensive prowess and basketball IQ that should strengthen the Suns’ roster.

During his college career, Walker made great strides in his game, earning praise for his shooting and playmaking ability. Under Izzo’s coaching, Walker flourished, demonstrating not only his technical skills but also his leadership qualities on the court. During his time at Michigan State, he developed into a reliable scorer and a tenacious defender – qualities that are highly valued in the NBA, especially in a competitive environment like Summer League.

For Phoenix, signing Walker is a strategic move to improve their depth and talent pool. As they continue to build on their recent success in the NBA, Walker’s signing underscores their commitment to developing young, promising talent. His experience under a coach like Izzo, who is known for producing NBA players, makes Walker a potential asset for the Suns’ future seasons.

In the summer league, Walker has the opportunity to show his skills against top-class competition and thus further prove his readiness for the NBA stage.

The 2024 NBA Summer League begins on Monday, July 8.
