“I’ve canceled my membership completely,” screams Sam’s Club shopper after Plus members face huge price increases

“I’ve canceled my membership completely,” screams Sam’s Club shopper after Plus members face huge price increases

A member of the SAM’S Club has complained about a price increase planned for late summer.

They sharply criticized the wholesaler for updating the discounts included in some tariffs, which resulted in higher costs for some.

Shoppers can sign up for a basic membership in the club for $50 per year, according to the Sam’s Club website, or upgrade to the Plus membership, which offers additional benefits, for $110.

Both Club and Plus include same-day delivery, instant savings, fuel discounts, bonus offers and an additional free membership for a second person in the buyer’s household.

Interested shoppers may pay more for the exclusive offers associated with Plus rather than Club, including discounts at pharmacies and opticians, earlier shopping hours and – most importantly – free shipping and curbside pickup on all orders.

However, free shipping and curbside pickup will no longer apply as of August 19.

PAY

If the minimum order value is not met, the shipping and pickup costs will increase to $8 instead.

“As of August 19, Sam’s Club perks have changed for Sam’s Club Plus members,” the frustrated shopper wrote in a post on Facebook earlier this month.

“I pay $110 for Plus because I get free shipping on orders with no minimum purchase.”

“Now I have to pay an $8 shipping fee unless I spend $50 or more,” the member said.

They further noted that there will also be changes to club memberships, offering free curbside pickup on orders of $45 or more.

“Otherwise, there will be a $4 fee for pickup under $45,” the member noted.

I’m canceling my Costco membership and switching to Sam’s Club – and not because of the cheaper membership prices

“Before the change, a person with a regular membership had to pay $4 each time they picked up.”

“Looks like I’m upgrading to a regular membership,” they added.

Others were equally unhappy with the change.

“I canceled my membership completely,” commented one customer in the same thread.

SPEEDSHOPPING

Sam’s Club members were recently pleased with the warehouse retailer’s Scan & Go feature.

Similar to Walmart’s feature of the same name, customers can scan merchandise using Sam’s Club’s mobile application and generate a single barcode for all the items in their cart.

They then take this barcode to the checkout and quickly scan it before leaving the store.

It has become so popular that some Costco customers have vowed to give up their memberships in favor of Sam’s Club.

A Costco member recently argued that Sam’s was “better” for several reasons and was considering returning there.

Another customer at Costco sharply criticized the chain for being like a “zoo” full of shoppers amid Sam’s Club’s Scan & Go solution for an efficient shopping experience.
