Former Michigan State G Tyson Walker signs with Phoenix Suns

Tyson Walker has found a home in the NBA and remains loyal to the Michigan State basketball family.

The former MSU guard signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns on Sunday after going undrafted in the NBA Draft.

The Suns are owned by former Michigan State University basketball player and major donor Mat Ishbia, who bought the team in 2022 for nearly $4 billion.

After transferring from Northeastern, Walker spent three seasons under Tom Izzo in East Lansing and developed into one of the best offensive players in the Big Ten.

Despite being slowed by injuries in the second half of the season, the lightning-quick guard averaged 18.4 points on 44.9% shooting for a Spartans team that needed all the points he had to offer. While Walker is also an aggressive defender, he was undrafted largely because of his size (or lack thereof), as he is generously listed at 6’0″.

Walker still has a long way to go before he can take the court with the Phoenix Suns, but his work begins at the upcoming NBA Summer League, where he will step onto the court in the Suns’ uniform and show everyone what they’ve been missing.

The Suns will play their first game on July 13 against Golden State in Las Vegas (11 p.m., ESPN2).
