Sydney Sweeney is having a great moment right now. She had a huge success in 2023 with her great romantic comedy with Glen Powell, Everyone except you achieve big box office hitsand directed the HBO film realitywhich was certainly a step out of her comfort zone. Her 2024 is off to a great start once again. The euphoria moderated by Star SNL in the last season, and now she leads the scary horror film Immaculate. She is a big star and attended this year’s coveted Vanity Fair Oscar Party in style, as She wore a beautiful Marilyn Monroe tribute dress which was once worn by Angelina Jolie.
What to know? The archive dress in question was designed by Marc Bouwer, who originally designed the dress for Angelina Jolie. The Mr and Mrs Smith wore the cream dress in 2004 that Sweeney rocked at the 2024 Oscars. Both wore the look similarly, wearing multiple necklaces stacked on top of each other to accentuate the plunging neckline. You can see Sweeney in the dress below:

They both look absolutely stunning in the look, and Sweeney said ET how much of an honor it was for her to rock such an iconic look. She said:
I felt so honored. I thought to myself, “I’m touching the same dress that Angelina Jolie wore. What am I doing?”
In an interview with ExtraTVApparently the look had been in the works for some time, but she and her stylist were waiting for the right moment to pull out all the stops. Of course, the Oscars ended up being the perfect opportunity. Sweeney explained:
You know, it was a mix of the designer Mark Bauer and my stylist Molly Dixon, they worked together and I was just overwhelmed that I was even lucky enough to wear that outfit. We had it for quite a long time and just tried to find the perfect moment to wear the dress. And then I thought, “There’s nothing more perfect than 20 years later at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.”
Wearing Angelina Jolie’s dress was such a statement, and more than just a fashion one. Jolie was considered a sex symbol of her time and was often the subject of wild tabloid rumors about her love life. The press on Sydney Sweeney has recently projected a similar narrative, focusing heavily on her status as a modern sex symbol, as well as Affair rumors with co-star Glen Powell. This fashion choice, which links her to Angelina Jolie, gives the impression that Sweeney is writing her own story and gives way to media comparisons with other actresses who have received similar levels of attention.
The homage to Marilyn Monroe was another layer to the whole thing. The dress resembles the white dress Monroe wore in the 1955 Billy Wilder film. The darn seventh year. There is so much reflected in this dress and Sweeney feels like the perfect actress to wear such a dress. Her blonde hair completed the look and presented her to the world as our modern Monroe, with a touch of a 2000s Jolie.
